On The Mall

The modification from Salem to Portland has been a hospitable one, but there have been fertility of way of life shocks as I trial things in Portland that Salem in toto lacked – sustainable general transportation, an overflow of locally owned restaurants, urbanity, Burgerville, Democrats, parks, etc. However, what has been most shocking about my metre in the big burgh has been the malls. Oh, the miraculous, smashing malls!
Satisfied, there were philanthropic spaces in Salem that could be referred to as malls. In downtown Salem we had the Salem Center, which consisted of a few stout division stores joined by skybridges, along with a provisions court and the requisite Hot Thesis and Honeybaked Ham Accumulation, entities which are ostensibly incapable of existing surface of a mall.* It was singular, uncommonly, in a very Salem of a mediocre of way – as though some entrepreneurs had seen a mall on TV and attempted to recreate it on a smaller ascend. There were overweight surety guards and warring tribes of punkish 8th graders, satisfied, but it was more like a Hasbro mall playset than a legitimate mall. For a eat one's heart out even so, I reminiscences that was what malls were like.
*Also, the Excalibur Cutlery Shoppe – I’ve seen a lot of those places in my lifestyle, and they’ve always been in malls. Why is that? If you’re common to buy a facsimile samurai sword, why is it that you can only do so within walking rigidity of an indoor origin and an Orange Julius?
